Anna Why
On the Greek island of Leros, perched between sea and sky in a fantastic setting on a godlike scale, the nun, Nicoletta, and the novice, Veroniki – the former naively zealous, the latter having seen it all before – try to domesticate silence, darkness, and vertigo. Until the day when a deacon, Maximos, an alcoholic vagrant and painter of icons, turns up, bringing the diabolical torments of desire to this sanctuary of God surrounded by awesome sheer cliffs.
